William James Romango, Jr.
“Wild Bill”
Passed away peacefully in the early morning hours on Sunday, August 25, 2024. He is survived by his partner, Sarah Golem, with whom he spent his happiest retirement years. His children, Bill Romango, III (Samantha Swift and daughter Kammi), Drew (Samantha) Romango, and Jenn (Scott) Meyers, and his grand-babies, Sully and Cece, the lights of his life.
Wild Bill was a larger than life personality who truly lived up to his moniker. Born and raised in Penn Hills, PA, his early years were spent with his parents, William J. Romango, Sr. and Marie Romango (nee Schubert), his two older sisters, Linda and Bonnie (Bill) Lavery, and his younger brother, Kevin (Lisa) Romango.
Taking over leadership of Romango Landscaping, from his father, in the early 80s, he would craft a business that designed and completed the landscape architecture of what came to be called, The Star Lake Amphitheater. Romango Landscaping also handled the redesign and execution of the front lawn of Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall in Oakland. Years later, he and his family would move to the Jersey Shore. For over a decade, he enjoyed being in the stands for every sporting event in which his children competed, at Atlantic City High School.
Once the children all graduated, he made his way back to Pittsburgh, settling in Verona, PA. It’s there he would reside and participate in many community events over the years, even meeting his partner Sarah at one such event
Wild Bill truly held a special place in the hearts of anyone who ever met him. Quick with a joke, he loved an audience and would always say, “I’m gonna tell you something…” before delivering a monologue on the state of the Steelers, his thoughts about politics, how one should handle a given situation, “...so on and so forth.” We’ll miss his laugh, his corny jokes, taking him to movies and ballgames, and his random phone calls at 10:30pm because he can’t figure out how to use Netflix. Most of all, we’ll miss the man that brought happiness, love, and laughter to every interaction.
The family will receive friends at the Weddell-Ajak Funeral Home, 100 Center Ave, Aspinwall, PA 15215, on Thursday, August 29th from 4 p.m. until the 6 p.m. blessing service. Interment will be private at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Shaler Twp.
