Thomas “Mark” Vey
Mark passed away suddenly on Saturday, June 10, 2023. He was born on October 1, 1957, one of five children of Dr. E Kenneth Vey and Joanne D Vey of Fox Chapel. Mark attended Shady Side Academy and later graduated from Denver University.
Mark was one of the first Pittsburgh recipients of a living donor, intrafamily kidney transplant from his father, Dr. Vey in 1974. He received two additional successful kidney transplants, including one from his brother Eric.
Mark was an avid tennis player and fisherman. He received a varsity letter in tennis at the University of Denver and was both a silver and bronze medalist in tennis at the transplant Olympics in later years.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents and by his sister Anne. He is survived by his two daughters Andrea (Scott) Greak and Elana (Cody) Safford and four wonderful grandchildren, multiple nieces and nephews, a grandniece and is survived by his remaining siblings, Paul (Mary), Scott (Rose) and Eric (Theresa).
Mark will be remembered for his infectious laugh and the warmth of his personality. He has many close friends.
Funeral and burial arrangements will be private.
Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation. He will be deeply missed.
