Thomas J. Destein

January 9, 1947 - June 1, 2024

Age 77, of O’Hara Township, passed away peacefully on Saturday June 1, 2024. He was born January 9, 1947 in Pittsburgh, a son of Joseph and Dorothy Destein.

Destein served his country as a Sgt. in The United States Marine Corps in Vietnam between 1966-70. He was awarded the Commendation Medal for Heroic Action for his bravery saving numerous men.

Destein started his own business, Destein Contracting, serving much of Western Pa. His business brought him much pride and joy and countless friends for the past four decades.

Destein was also a significant member of his community serving on numerous boards and helped raise thousands of dollars for multiple charities, most notably The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Destein loved spending time with his family and friends, making people laugh and being of service to anyone in need. He is survived by his brothers, Richard Destein (Billie), Joseph Destein (Karrie); his children, Jason T. Destein (Amy Destein), Josh R. Destein, Maggie L. Destein (Bobbi Cupka-Destein); his grandchildren Isabella and Zachary Destein; and his former wife Paige Destein.

A funeral mass will be held on Saturday June 8, 2024 at 10:00 am at Christ The King Parish, St. Scholastica Church, 309 Brilliant Ave. Aspinwall. Interment private at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. No visitation.

In lieu of flowers the family respectfully suggests memorial contributions be made to the VA Medical Center, Disabled American Veterans, Homes for our Troops and/or Semper Fi & America’s Fund.
