Unexpectedly, on August 23rd, Sarah "Sallie" Tyson Royston passed away peacefully at the age of 70. She was the beloved daughter of the late Martha Maze Royston and Louis Gerber Royston. She is survived by her siblings James Maze Royston (Mardi), Louis Gerber Royston Jr. (Lynda), Cathy Royston Laakso (the late Joe), and Mark Henry Royston (the late Kelly). Sallie cherished each and every one of her nieces and nephews: Lindsay Goff (Bill), Jay Royston (Catlin), Scott Royston (Alison), Whitney Royston (Jonathan), Will Royston (Kaylene), Lauren Youngbar (Pierce), Caroline Schorer (Dan), Anton Laakso, Tracey Condosta (Josh), and Blake Royston. In addition, she was blessed with great nieces and nephews: Will, Mazie, Mattie, Annie, James, Rose, Isabelle, Kynzie, Mason, Reagan, Karly, Delaney, Catherine, and Ryann. Sallie is best known for her love of family.
Second to family, Sallie’s greatest accomplishments were on the golf course. She played for the Rollins College golf team; she competed in the Pennsylvania State Junior Amateur, USGA Junior Amateur, North/South Amateur, Pennsylvania State Amateur, Eastern Amateur, Western Amateur, and the USGA Amateur. In addition, she was a five time winner of the Longue Vue Club Women’s Club Championship, the course where she developed her love of the game.
Her other great passion was spending time at the family cottage in Eagle Harbor, Michigan. There, she enjoyed the natural beauty, the recreation, and the time spent with extended family.
Sallie will be missed for her compassion for her family and friends, and her very entertaining sense of humor.
Her family would like to acknowledge the staff and residents of Harmony Harts Run for delivering excellent care and bringing great joy to Sallie during the time that she resided there.
A service celebrating her life will be held at a later date.
