Sally (Jones) Schurko

Age 76, of Indiana Twp., passed away peacefully on Friday, April 12, 2024. Many people are said to battle cancer – with Sally it was a decade long courageous war. She is finally at peace. Born June 22, 1947 in Pittsburgh, PA, she was the daughter of the late Herb and Helen Jones. She is survived by her husband, Michael Schurko, her stepdaughter, Kyra Schurko, her stepson, Eric Kellar, her grandchildren, Nina and Thea, her brother, Larry Jones.

Sally grew up in Pittsburgh and graduated from Chatham College as a theater major. She started a successful theater company in New York City and directed and acted in avant garde theater  productions in New York and Europe. She switched careers in 1980 and obtained an MBA from Wharton. She spent the rest of her career in banking at Equibank and Mellon Bank. After retirement she developed an interest in Japanese culture and became a tea master. She taught and demonstrated the tea ceremony after studying in Japan.  She served on the board of Pitt’s Japanese nationality room for many years.

This wonderful dynamic person will be sorely missed by the many people who knew her.  She made the world a better place.

Per Sally’s request there will be no visitation, service and interment private.  Memorial contributions can be made to the University of Pittsburgh Japanese nationality room or to Hillman Cancer Center.
