Robert Salvatore Rosati
Age 86, loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather passed away peacefully at home in Fox Chapel, on August 9th, 2025. Born in Springdale to Rose and Andrew Rosati, “Bob” graduated from Springdale High School in 1956 and received a bachelor’s in business administration from The University of Pittsburgh in 1961. After starting his career with Ernst and Ernst, Bob was drafted in 1962 where he spent 2 years in Army Audit. In 1965 he joined the transportation subsidiaries of the U.S. Steel Corporation. Bob’s tenure with the U.S. Steel railroads spanned over 35 years and a multitude of assignments culminating with the creation of Transtar Inc. in 1988. Bob served as Transtar’s’ first Vice President of Finance, CFO, and then as the President, CEO, until his retirement in 2000.
Throughout his life he was an avid outdoorsmen valuing his years working in Duluth, Minnesota. He was also a devoted supporter of Pitt athletics. Bob served on the board of directors of the Katz Business Alumni Association and was the national chair of the Chancellor’s Circle from 1995-98. In 1998 Bob was honored as The Katz Graduate School of Business Distinguished Alumnus and was inducted into the Springdale HS hall of fame. In addition to these service activities, he also funded the Robert S. Rosati Student Loan Fund and endowed a football scholarship at the university.
He married Janet Rose in 1960 with whom he raised 3 children, Robert Rosati, Marianne Rosati, and Ronald Rosati, until Janet’s death in 1995. In 1997 he was fortunate to have a second chance in love when he married Gloria Perri Thompson and her daughter Kara Thompson. Bob spent the last 28 years traveling and enjoying the company of his family, grandchildren, and friends. He was his happiest when touring Italy with Gloria or at home watching football.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Gloria, his sister Patricia Schopp, his brother Dominic (Chris) Rosati, his children, Robert (Victoria) Rosati, Marianne Rosati, Ron Rosati, his stepdaughter Kara (Nathan) Agens, his grandchildren Alexandra, Andrew, Joseph, Thomas, and step grandchildren Nathan, Gemma, and Joshua.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 13th from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. at the WEDDELL-AJAK FUNERAL HOME, 100 Center Ave. Aspinwall, where a parting prayer will be held Thursday, August 14th at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at Christ the King Parish, St. Scholastica Church, 309 Brilliant Ave., Aspinwall. Interment will follow with military honors at Assumption Cemetery, Hampton Twp.
