Robert McCutcheon Obituary

Robert Reed McCutcheon

Age 100, of O'Hara Twp., passed away on August 2, 2021 at home. Born to Sarah Reed and Weir Russell McCutcheon on June 4, 1921, and baptized into Sixth United Presbyterian Church, later Eastminster, Robert crossed South Lang Ave. to attend Sterrett School.  In 1939 he graduated from Peabody High School.  He went on to earn a degree in aeronautical engineering from Carnegie Institute of Technology and participate in ROTC on an accelerated schedule so that he could serve in the Army’s 847th Engineer Aviation Battalion of the Corps of Engineers from March 31, 1943, to June 11, 1946, when he was honorably discharged as captain.

He spent his career as an economic forecaster for AT&T and Bell Telephone of Pennsylvania. He cultivated interests in both physical fitness and classical music. A devoted member of Eastminster, he served the church over the years as deacon, elder, choir member, architect and treasurer.

He is survived by his children Robert Reed McCutcheon Jr. of Elkins, WV; Constance Barrett McCutcheon of Munich, Germany; John Phillips McCutcheon of New York City; and Andrew Stone McCutcheon of Pittsburgh; four grandchildren, Devon, Hiro, Isa and Ilya; and was preceded in death by his wife Alice Provost McCutcheon.

A memorial service will be held at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 250 N Highland Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15206, on October 2, 2021 at 3:00 PM, led by Rev. Paul Roberts. Masking and social distancing will be observed; vaccination is encouraged.
