"Hutch"
Age 90, of Longwood at Oakmont, formerly of O’Hara Township, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 18, 2025. Son of the late Ralph and Gladys Hutchison; Devoted husband to his life-love Zelene Hutchison; loving father to three great children - Elizabeth Anne “Betsy” Johnsen (Tim), Ralph M. Hutchison, III (late Phyllis) and Sara Hutchison; cherished grandfather of Paul Hutchison (Jess), Emily Harmes (Jason), Rachel Rogers (Levi) and Kenneth Johnsen; great grandfather of Laine and Jonah Rogers, and Carter and Callie Harmes; brother of the late Jane Myers (Fred), Suzanne Hunt (Bill) and Mary Louise Hutchison.
Ralph was employed by Johns Manville Corporation for 28 years as Chemical Engineer and Sr. Executive before exploring other entrepreneurial endeavors including Metalized Paper Corp., based in McKeesport, PA. He believed in hard work as a basis for accomplishment.
A member of Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church, he served as a deacon, elder, clerk of session and delegate to the General Assembly. He was a longtime member of Rotary and served as President in the Fox Chapel Area Club from 2007-2008.
In 1956, Ralph graduated from Lafayette College with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. During that time, he was Middle Atlantic Champion wrestler for 3 years and runner-up his Freshman year. He continued to follow and cheer others on in the sport his whole life. In college he was a member of the Calumet Society, Maroon Key, and Knights of the Round Table. In his youth, he was an Eagle Scout. In 1977 he attended the Stanford Executive Program at the Graduate School of Business.
He served in the Army as 2nd Lieutenant reaching Captaincy in the Reserve.
Hutch and Zelene were blessed with many loving friendships throughout their lives spanning 35 years in Pittsburgh, 18 years in Evergreen Colorado, and before that in Westfield, New Jersey as well as many other places.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 5th from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the WEDDELL-AJAK FUNERAL HOME, 100 Center Ave. Aspinwall. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 6, 2025 at the Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church, 384 Fox Chapel Road, with reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers the family respectfully suggests memorial contributions to Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church or the American Cancer Society.
