Priscilla Oehl
Age 89 of Pittsburgh, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 12, 2022. She spent her last days surrounded by loved ones in her home. Priscilla Anne Rice was born on May 31, 1933 in New York City to Olga Byron Rice and Charles Ainsworth Rice. She spent the majority of her childhood in Ridgewood, New Jersey.
Priscilla graduated from Mary Burnham School in Northampton, MA and received degrees in Child Development and Family Relations from Cornell University and a Masters degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology from University of Pittsburgh. Upon receiving her graduate degree, Priscilla began a fulfilling career working with language-delayed and learning disabled children.
Upon her retirement, she began what she refers to as a mini-career writing columns for a community newspaper in Pittsburgh. Since becoming a winter resident of Florida she contributed a monthly column to her local paper, Seaword, at Ocean Village in Fort Pierce. Her decades of putting thoughts to paper resulted in the publication of two collections of her work where she wrote about ordinary life experiences which have far reaching meaning and appeal to many of her readers.
Priscilla and Dan divided their time between Pittsburgh, Ocean Village, and her beloved summer home in Avalon, New Jersey. It was there she welcomed her expansive family and friends to enjoy the Jersey shore. Tennis was a life-long passion and she played at a high level well in to her 80’s.
Priscilla is survived by her loving husband, Daniel Oehl of 17 years; her son, Bruce Bell (Leslie Gauff), daughter, Barbara Fichtner; step-sons, Charles Ebert (Faith), Daric Ebert (Ellen); step-children, Catherine and Dan Oehl; daughter-in-law, Jody Foster (Bruce Cain) and grandson, Toby; grandchildren, Scott Collins, Justin Ebert, Stephen Collins, Barbara Ebert, Kris Collins, Emily Ebert, Nicholas Ebert; nephews, Ty and Jonathan Rice and great grandchildren.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 19th at 11 a.m. at the Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church, 384 Fox Chapel Road, where the family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be sent in her name to an organization dear to Priscilla; The Neighborhood Academy, 709 N Aiken Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15206.
