Maryrose (Benkoski) Block

Of Harmar Township on Saturday, January 22, 2022. Beloved wife of the late Dr. Robert C. Block; loving mother of Paula Gormley (Foster, RI), Diana Buck (Pittsburgh), and Carl Block (McCandless); Grandmother of David and Christopher Gormley (Taylor), Max Reisman (Maddie), Eva Gillis-Buck (Benjamin Berman), Carl Buck, and Luke Block; Great-grandmother of Mason and Mia Gormley and Isaac Berman; daughter of the late Leon and Mary Rose Bejenkowski; sister of the late Dorothy Allingham, Richard Benkoski, and John Benkoski.

Maryrose was a graduate of St. Paul Cathedral High School, and earned B.A and M.A. (Literature) degrees from The University of Pittsburgh. She taught English in both the Penn Hills School District and the Fox Chapel School District. She served as a Eucharistic Minister, Lector, and Resurrection Choir member at St. Scholastica Church. Yoga, reading, music, bridge, and her friends filled her days.

Friends will be received Thursday, January 27th from 4-8 p.m. at the Weddell-Ajak Funeral Home, 100 Center Avenue, Aspinwall, where a parting prayer will be held on Friday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at Christ the King Parish in St. Scholastica Church, 309 Brilliant Avenue, Aspinwall, PA 15215. Interment will follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Shaler Twp.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the University of Pittsburgh School of Education or University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
