Kenneth "Kenny" Smith Obituary

Kenneth J. “Kenny” Smith

Age 54 of Plum Borough, Kenny passed away after an incredibly brave and unwavering 8 year battle with cancer with his family at his side on Friday, May 23, 2025 at UPMC Shadyside. Kenny was born in Pittsburgh on May 17, 1971 and was the son of Ken and Geraldine (Mollica) Smith.

Kenny was a proud member of Plum High School class of 1989 where he distinguished himself as a three-time, varsity football player and a key contributor to the school’s athletic legacy. In 1988 he played an instrumental role in leading the Plum High School baseball team to victory in the WPIAL Championship, a testament to his athleticism and determination. Following high school, Kenny attended Duquesne University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminology. At Duquesne he continued his love for sports by playing football for the Dukes.

While his passion for sports was a major part of his life, it was his three beautiful children who became his number one interest. His love for sports was passed on to them and he found immense joy and fulfillment in watching them succeed and embrace their passions. Although he was deeply proud of all their accomplishments, it was their happiness and growth that brought him the greatest joy.

His fighting spirit was an inspiration to all that knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, Kenny is survived by his children, Rayla, Malayna and Kenny Smith; his sisters, Lisa Kindler (J.D.) and Danielle Ferracano (Anthony); his nieces and nephews, Kaylie, Alexi, Jayden Kindler and Paisley, Kinsley, Brayley Ferracano.

Per Kenny’s wishes there will be no visitation.  A Celebration of Life will take place for family and friends.
