John Curtis Artz
Age 77, died calmly in his sleep at home from bile duct cancer on Wednesday, November 22, 2023. Born March 4, 1946 in Columbus, Ohio to Curtis Price Artz and Kathryn Lucille Risley Artz, John grew up in Texas and Mississippi where his father was a renowned burn surgeon.
John attended Kent School, Allegheny College, and after serving as a pilot in the Air Force for five years, the University of South Carolina School of Law. He practiced labor and employment law in Pittsburgh at Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott, Polito & Smock, and Ogletree Deakins.
Known for his generous spirit and love of flying, John was committed to his clients, colleagues, friends and family – wife Nancy (Jones), son Jay of North Andover, MA (wife Laura, children Colin and Alexa), son Andy of New York City (wife Lan To, children Emmett and Lia) and daughter Casey Schneider of O’Hara Township, Pittsburgh (husband Joe, children Kara, Evan and Mia). John also was loved by his sisters, Susan Okun of Benicia, CA and Joann Artz of Evansville, IN and many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
No Visitation. A Private burial with military honors was held at Penn Forest Natural Burial Park.
