Jean Cassetti Obituary

Jean Adrienne Cassetti, loving wife of the late John N. Cassetti for 62 years, passed away on March 17, 2018, at Longwood at Oakmont, Hanna Health Care Center.  Jean is survived by her four children: Richard (Pauline), Jaye Pepping (Gerald), Jill Solomon (Neil) and Vaune Gounder (Randy). She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Richard John Whitlock III (Darla), Patrick Cassetti, Melinda and Julia Solomon and Rachael, Foster and Sarah Jane Taube; and 2 great grandsons, Graham and Wyatt Whitlock. Jean is also survived by her loving sister, Joan Elg (David) and many nieces and nephews. Jean had many passions in her life; her family, her faith, education, art and politics. Jean was a docent at the Carnegie Museum of Art for many years, a member of the Commonwealth Education Organization, and long-time member and contributor to The Fox Chapel Follies. Her love of cooking and all things culinary led to the publication of her cookbook, The Steelmakers Guide to Cooking. Jean had enormous pride in her French heritage and enjoyed surrounding herself with reminders of her ancestry. Her love of knowledge made her a perpetual student at the University of Pittsburgh. Jean had an exuberant love for life and she will be sorely missed by all who knew her.  No Visitation.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, July 21, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Scholastica R.C. Church, 309 Brilliant Ave. Aspinwall, with the Rev. Fr. James R. Torquato, Celebrant. Interment Private.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Marians of the Immaculate Conception, P.O. Box 716, Stockbridge, MA 01262, or the Little Sisters of the Poor, 1028 Benton Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15212.
