Janis A. Domzal
Age 75 of Pittsburgh, passed away peacefully with family at her side on Monday, April 24, 2023. Beloved daughter of the late Ervin A. and Lucille J. (Miresse) Domzal; loving sister of David (Theresa) Domzal of Silverthorne, CO; dear aunt of Mark (Kristin Kastner) Domzal, Rebecca (Scott) Hutchison, Bethany (Jonothan) Sanders and Alyssa (Derrick) Domzal; cherished friend of Alexis Samulski and Joe Abeln, Judy Klingensmith, Susie and Rich Barbour, Margaret Lucas, Michelle and Paul Collins, Judy Mountain, and fellow quilters Linda Winkler, Penny Mateer, and Jane Christofer.
Born December 27, 1947 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Jan earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Michigan in 1971. She then embarked on a successful nursing career in the Veteran’s Administrator, rising to the level of Chief Nursing Administrator for the VA facility in Battle Creek, Michigan.
Deciding to switch careers, Jan obtained her law degree from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and joined the Allegheny County Law Department, serving as Assistant County Solicitor. As a trial lawyer, Jan represented the County on many cases involving abused and neglected children in the Pittsburgh area.
Jan’s talents knew no bounds. She was an expert quilter who often donated her work to those in need. She achieved Master Gardener status and volunteered extensively for the Penn State Extension Service, manning a garden hotline and developing an urban community garden.
The family will receive friends Monday, May 1st from 3 - 7p.m. at the WEDDELL-AJAK FUNERAL HOME, 100 Center Ave. Aspinwall, where a parting prayer will be held on Tuesday, May 2nd at 11:00 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. at Christ the King Parish, St. Scholastica Church, Aspinwall. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully suggests memorial contributions to CASA of Allegheny County or UPMC Family Hospice.
