Helen Irene Mertz

Age 100, formerly of Aspinwall, passed away on Monday, September 26, 2022. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Miller) Mertz; sister of the late Virginia Mertz, Katherine Rafferty, Marion (Sr. Virginia) Mertz, CDP, and Joseph  S. Mertz; Aunt of Virginia Mertz (Richard), Joseph Mertz, Jr. (Rebecca), David Mertz (Jacqueline), Mary Alice Wagner (Rick) and Karen Barbi (Charles).

Helen was a retired registered nurse with the VA Hospital Oakland and Aspinwall. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards at the Sharpsburg Senior Center. Helen was a longtime volunteer with Meals on wheels.

Friends received Thursday, Sept. 29th from 3 p.m. – 7 p.m. at the WEDDELL-AJAK FUNERAL HOME, 100 Center Ave. Aspinwall, where a parting prayer will be held on Friday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at Christ the King Parish, St. Scholastica Church, Aspinwall. Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, O'Hara Twp. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor.
