Harry J. Jenkins

Age 75 passed away peacefully with family at his side on Wednesday, May 24, 2023. Son of the late Harry and Clara (McCray) Jenkins; beloved husband of 53 years to Barbara (Mitnick) Jenkins; loving father of Todd (Patti) Jenkins; cherished grandfather of Elizabeth and Katherine Jenkins; dear brother of Becky (late Dick) Marks. Donald (Theresa) Jenkins, Bruce (Kelly) Jenkins, Linda (Timothy) Radcliff, David Jenkins, Timothy (late Pam) Jenkins and Gene (Theresa) Jenkins; also survived by many nieces and nephews. 

Upon graduating high school in Bridgeport, West Virginia, he accepted a basketball scholarship to attend Edinboro University.  After earning a degree in Education, he started teaching in the Fox Chapel school district in January 1970. That also began what would define him, his basketball coaching career.  Prior to the beginning of the 1980 school year, he was named the Head Boy’s coach for the Foxes and would continue in that role until stepping down in 2005.  After 316 wins, numerous conference titles, and two WPIAL finals, he wanted to continue coaching.  For three seasons he assisted at Carnegie Mellon and for the past thirteen years at LaRoche University.  He retired from teaching in 2007 and kept busy in the summer working at the Fox Chapel Golf Club as a Caddie Master.  He’ll be remembered by all as a great man, wonderful husband, father, Pap, and the best coach anybody ever had.   

The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 28th from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the WEDDELL-AJAK FUNERAL HOME, 100 Center Avenue, Aspinwall.  Service and Interment Private, however the family invites the public to view the service on the Weddell-Ajak Funeral Home Facebook page on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m.
