Gena Rebekah Nelson

Age 90, of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2022, in Pittsburgh, PA. Visitation will be held at the WEDDELL-AJAK FUNERAL HOME on Saturday, October 22, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon, followed by a funeral service at noon. 

Gena was born in Horace, North Dakota to Alfred and Mabel Johnson on June 8, 1932. She went to high school at Oak Grove Lutheran High School, in Fargo, North Dakota. Gena went on to earn a BSN at the University of Minnesota. She worked as a psychiatric nurse, primarily at the Veterans Administration, for 60 years.  

Gena is survived by her husband of 66 years, David P. Nelson; her seven children: Rachel O. Boskey (Avner), Paul A. Nelson (Suzanne), Joel B. Nelson (Liz), Samuel J. Nelson (Tiffany), Sarah A. Austin (Gary), Peter J. Nelson (Jodi) and Gabriel M. Nelson (Stephanie); her 17 grandchildren: Daniel Boskey, David Boskey (Jamie), Asaph Boskey (Andreea), Elisha Boskey (Sam), Hannah Higuera (Nicolas), Olivia Nelson, Micah Nelson, Asa Nelson, Adlai Nelson, Avery Gil-Nelson (Rafael), Perri Nelson, Dylan Todd, Arielle Nelson, Max Nelson, Kyria Nelson, Leah Nelson, and Miriam Nelson; her five great grandchildren, Ryder Todd, Judah Boskey, Binyamin Boskey, Joseph Boskey and Ayil Boskey.  Gena prayed every day for all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by granddaughter, Phoebe Nelson.  

Gena lived a full life guided by her unwavering faith and abiding service to others.
