Frank H. “Skip” McKean
Age 95, formerly of Fox Chapel, PA, Boca Grande, FL and Castine, ME, passed away peacefully, with his family at his side on Saturday, March 8, 2025.
Born in Pittsburgh, the hospital nurses called him Skippy after a popular comic strip, and it became his lifelong nickname. Skip grew up in Edgewood and Fox Chapel and graduated from Staunton Military Academy and Penn State. After serving in the Navy during the Korean War, he returned to Pittsburgh and joined the family business, McKean Oldsmobile.
Skip was a consummate and fun-loving sportsman and gamesman, enjoying competition of all types. He played golf, tennis, pool and bridge and enjoyed downhill skiing, deer hunting, western riding, boating, and fishing. Skip sang with the Barbershop Chorus of Boca Grande, was an active member of numerous clubs and served on several boards.
Beloved husband for 55 years to the late Suzanne E. “Sussie” McKean and for 10 years to the late Mary M. Cosgrove; Skip was the loving father of Margaret “Meg” Taylor (Richard), Lindsay Scott (Philip), and Mason Hoeller (John); cherished grandfather “Pappy” of Alexandra Dodge (Jeremy), Greer Pearce (Charles), Hildy Schott, Nicholas Taylor (Cristina), Monica Boghos (Joseph), Charlotte Scott (Chris Soper), Ned Scott, Henry Scott (Sarah), Mimi Scott, Peter Hoeller and Ted Hoeller; and precious great grandfather to eleven.
The family would like to especially acknowledge the devoted friendship and care provided by Nancy Skulos and Linda Marmalich.
A celebration of life will be held during the summer in Castine, ME. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to the Castine Golf Club Capital Campaign, PO Box 34, Castine, ME 04421.
Skip will be remembered by friends and family for his humor, curiosity, songs and stories, for his naturally social nature that led to friendships wherever he went, and for his unwavering optimism and enthusiasm for life.
