Dr. W. Richard Thompson
Born in Unity, PA on March 28, 1926 died peacefully at Longwood of Oakmont Retirement Community on Monday, June 13, 2022. Richard enlisted in the Army Air Force and was honorably discharged on July 4th, 1946. He completed his undergraduate degree at Penn State University and earned his Veterinary Medical Doctorate from University of Pennsylvania in 1954.
After working with large animals he started his private small animal practice on Greentree Rd in Scott Township in 1958. He lived in Mt. Lebanon until he retired in 1994. Richard was an avid golfer and lifetime member of Oakmont Country Club. He also enjoyed bowling and playing bridge. He was an active member of the Rotary Club of Carnegie and Fox Chapel.
He was the loving husband for over 60 years to the late Patricia D. Thompson. Richard is survived by his children Lynn (Tom) Asp of St. Johns, FL. Trent (Jean) Thompson of Hopewell, PA, his grandchildren James Asp, Andrew (Grace) Asp, Alexis Thompson, Paul Thompson and nieces and nephews.
He was known for his smile and memorable laugh. He will be missed by many friends and family. Thank you to the nurses and staff of Longwood of Oakmont for taking wonderful care of our father.
A private memorial service will be held. Condolences may be sent to Lynn Asp, 1220 N Burgandy Trail, St. Johns, FL. 32259. Donations may be sent in his memory to the American Diabetes Association, the Presbyterian SeniorCare Foundation at givetosrcare.org or a charity of your choosing.
