Dorothy Lind Sherrard

Passed away peacefully on  Thursday, June 8, 2023 at Longwood at Oakmont. She lived to see her 99th birthday. A lifelong resident of Pittsburgh, Dorothy was born to Frederick J. Lind and Elsie Gettman in Shadyside. She attended Peabody High School for several years and graduated from The Ellis School. After attending junior college, she graduated from Chatham College and worked for several years before marrying the love of her life, Alex Sherrard. Alex and “Dottie” were married for 54 years before Alex’s death in 2008. After a brief stay in Shadyside, they moved to a new house in Fox Chapel. Dorothy’s fondest memories are of raising her two children on Berkshire Drive and developing long lasting relationships with the other young families. Later, Dorothy looked forward to visits from her four grandchildren and vacations with the entire family to the Jersey shore and Oglebay Park, West Virginia.

She spent her final years at Longwood at Oakmont where she was reunited with many Pittsburgh friends and acquaintances. Special thanks to the wonderful staff at Longwood who truly cared about her well-being, and who appreciated her sense of humor. 

Dorothy is predeceased by her husband Alexander C. Sherrard II, her sister Marjorie Lind MacLachlan, and her brother Frederick “Buster” J. Lind, Jr. She is survived by her daughter Amy Sherrard (Bill Weaver deceased), her son Alexander “Sandy” C. Sherrard III (Suzanne), and her four grandchildren, Kelsey Weaver (Zach Lebowitz), Matthew Weaver (Anna Paninci), Emily Sherrard (Billy Watkins), and Patricia Sherrard (Mike Farrell), and five great grandchildren.
