Donald Evans Obituary

Donald R. Evans

November 19, 1931 - April 14, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donald R. Evans on Sunday April 14, 2024. He peacefully departed at the age 92, dying of a broken heart shortly after the loss of his wife, Imperia in February.  Donald leaves behind a life of character, dignity, and leadership.

Donald was the beloved husband for 63 years to the late Imperia (Maggio) Evans, father to Christopher R. Evans, and a cherished grandfather to Eleanor R. Evans. He was the youngest of eight, a beloved brother to the late Edward Evans, Jerome R. Evans, Marcella Tabish, Renee Pearce, Bette Pollilli, Eleanor Lucanish and Ruth Barone. He was a loved and much respected uncle to nieces and nephews.

Born in Pittsburgh, Don was a collegiate baseball player for his alma mater, Ohio University, and later graduated with an advanced degree from Carnegie Mellon University. Donald honorably served our nation as a Lieutenant in the United States Air Force, where he worked in Germany as part of the post-war rebuild of Europe. Donald worked as an engineer and executive in the metal manufacturing industries, where he met his beloved Imperia at Mesta Machines, outside of The Stacks of Homestead, which still stand to this day.  In that era, Don was often found cruising the streets top down in his '58 Jaguar XK-150 and creating memories with Imperia.

He would later build a successful career with industry leaders including Kennametal, and in 1987, launched his own Tungsten Carbide company, Evangard Metals, later acquired by General Carbide.

Don loved music, and was often found outside in the backyard, grilling up delicacies and enjoying a cold beer. Don enjoyed countless international trips with Imperia and Christopher, even if he was most famous for sleeping in late while visiting some of the world's most exotic locations.
Don's passion for sports never waned, and he loved hosting weekly Steelers Watch parties in the home he custom designed for the family. Later in life, some of his greatest memories revolved around visiting with his granddaughter Ellie and his son's dog Aspen. Don now rejoins Imperia in Heaven.
