Dolly (Mauro) King

December 5, 1937 – September 16, 2025

With deep love and gratitude, we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Dolly King, affectionately known as Mimi to her grandchildren.  She left us surrounded by family in her cherished home.    

Dolly was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Peter J. King, and is survived by her three children: Linda A. King (Christine Pozar), Carole King (Chip Burke), and Ronald King (Anne King). She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Griffin, Sean, and Alaina King, and step-grandchildren Charlie, George, Sam, and Amy Burke. Sister of the late Linda Napolitano, William D. Mauro, and Marie F. (Donald) Kost; aunt of Donald (Lisa) Kost and Jeff (Patricia) Kost.

The phrase “you reap what you sow” feels especially fitting for Dolly, who gave her entire life in service to others and, in turn, received great love and care from friends and family throughout her life.  As a dedicated nurse at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic, she spent her career caring for children with grace and empathy. Beyond her profession, Dolly gave generously to her community for many years as a softball coach in Morningside, a faithful member of Saint Raphael’s Parish, and an active participant at the Morningside Senior Center.

Dolly was known for her fierce intelligence, wry humor, and generous spirit. She was deeply engaged in the world, from news and sports to the latest crime drama.  She knew everything about murders.   She was a mean bocce player and a bit of a card shark at the casino, making fast friends with the other players at the poker table.   

But her defining quality was her generosity.   Her living room proudly bore a sign that read: “At Mimi’s I can”- a motto she embodied fully.  Whether preparing elaborate meals, indulging grandchildren with homemade goodies and activities, or simply offering a kind word, she ensured that everyone felt cared for.  She never stopped living on her own terms or cooking Sunday dinners for her family, no matter what life brought her way.

Her last days were lived to the fullest in her home of over 60 years, where she continued to read, watch her favorite soap operas, drive her convertible wherever she pleased, and welcome friends and family with her home cooking.  To the end, she continued to care for others first.  Her joy came from giving to others, and her warmth created a home that welcomed all.  

Together with Pete, Dolly built a life rooted in kindness, laughter, and love. They loved parties, dinners out, music, dance, and being social throughout their lives. Their legacy of devotion, generosity, and fun lives on through their children and grandchildren.

We are forever grateful for Dolly, our Mom, our Mimi, for her unwavering love, her humor, her care, and her example of how to lead a life of fun and devotion to others.    

No Visitation. A funeral Mass will be held at Saint Jude Parish, St. Raphael Church, 1106 Chislett St. Morningside on Saturday, September 20th at 10 am.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
