David P. Nelson

David Pleuss Nelson

Age 97, of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2023, in Pittsburgh, PA.  Visitation will be held at Weddell-Ajak Funeral Home, 100 Center Avenue, Aspinwall,  on Sunday, October 1, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 12 noon, and a memorial service will be held at Weddell-Ajak Funeral Home, 12 noon, Sunday, October 1, 2023. 

David was born in Perth Amboy, NJ to Byron and Anita Nelson on June 12, 1926. He graduated from East High School in Madison, WI. David served in the United States Navy from 1944-1946. He earned a BA in physics at Luther College in 1951. David worked for Honeywell in the aeronautical division for 20 years, served as Director of the Messianic Jewish Center, taught at the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics, and served as Pastor of First Friend’s Church in Long Beach, CA. 

He is survived by his seven children, Rachel O. Boskey (Avner), Paul A. Nelson (Suzanne), Joel B. Nelson (Liz), Samuel J. Nelson (Tiffany), Sarah A. Austin (Gary), Peter J. Nelson (Jodi) and Gabriel M. Nelson (Stephanie); his 17 grandchildren, Daniel Boskey, David Boskey (Jamie) Asaph Boskey (Andreea), Elisha Boskey (Sam), Hannah Higuera (Nicolas), Olivia Nelson, Micah Delabie (Ian), Asa Nelson, Adlai Nelson, Avery Gil-Nelson (Rafael), Perri Nelson, Dylan Todd, Arielle Nelson, Max Nelson, Kyria Nelson, Leah Nelson, and Miriam Nelson; and his five great grandchildren Ryder Todd, Judah Boskey, Binyamin Boskey, Joseph Boskey and Ayil Boskey.  He is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Gena R. Nelson, and granddaughter Phoebe Nelson.  

David lived a full life guided by his unwavering faith, scientific curiosity and thirst for knowledge.
