Carolyn Castoro, of Penn Hills and the Virgin Islands, known to her friends as Carrie, passed away at home at age 65, with her family and friends at her side on Thursday, July 18, 2024. Beloved wife of 40 years to Carlo Castoro; loving daughter of Mary Kurtz and the late George Kurtz; dear sister of Susan Sookoor, Dale Kurtz (Lil), Kathryn Kurtz, Karl Kurtz and Sharyn Kurtz; also survived by nieces and nephews Amy, Shawn, Colleen, Devin, Belle, Rachel and Lauren.
Carrie grew up in Aspinwall, a small town near Pittsburgh, PA, and moved to Saint Thomas in the US Virgin Islands when she was eighteen. There she became proficient in the boating world, sailing and crewing on deliveries of yachts. She showed an eye for detail that put her in great demand for painting and varnishing…It was here where she met Carlo and where they built their boat, home, and life together.
She thoroughly loved animals (especially little doggies!) and plants and knew how to treat them so they flourished. Carrie and Carlo went back to her hometown ten years ago, first on a part time, then a full-time basis to have a base to continue their adventures and to visit their families and the many friends they made over the years.
Carrie held on to her dreams with all her strength until the very end. She will be sorely missed.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 25th from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. with a memorial service at 10 a.m. at the WEDDELL-AJAK FUNERAL HOME. 100 Center Avenue, Aspinwall, PA. 15215
In lieu of flowers the family respectfully suggests memorial contributions to Pets with Wings, Inc. See website www.petswithwingsstt.com for direct donations.
