Carol A. (Fowles) Squires
Of Fox Chapel passed away peacefully at her home on March 31, 2025 with her family at her side. She was 85 years old. Beloved wife of the late W. Kenneth Squires, Jr.; loving mother of Brad Squires, Brian Squires, Brent Squires (Melissa), and Beth Squires; cherished grandmother of Tucker and Chase Squires; dear sister of Barbara Brown.
Born in Allentown, PA, on January 18, 1940, she grew up in Solon, OH, where she graduated from Solon High School. Carol then went on to attend the College of Wooster, where she met and later married her loving husband of 50 years. Carol spent her early years working as a medical technician before pursuing her lifelong loves of sewing and knitting, which eventually led to her becoming the proprietor of the Fox Chapel Yarn and Fabric Store, a business and clientele she was devoted to for many years.
Carol had many passions throughout her life, including teaching, running, tennis, paddle tennis, Pittsburgh sports, reading, music, animals, and many more. She was also dedicated to community through her service to Foxwall EMS as an EMT, her contributions to the Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church as deacon and chair of the Harvest Fair, her participation on the Women’s Board, and as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
Above all else, Carol treasured spending time with family and friends. Her warm personality was evident in family and other social gatherings, where she would share stories and laughter with those she loved. Carol also enjoyed being at her home, where she lived for 50 years, and traveling to her favorite place every summer, Fourth Lake in the Adirondack Mountains. She also treasured Sunday night dinners with her close friend group as well as regular gatherings with the book club she was part of.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 27, 2025, at 11am at the Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church, 384 Fox Chapel Road.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests contributions to Meals on Wheels America, P.O. Box 791568, Baltimore, MD 21279-1568.
