Betty (Shupe) Zimmerman
Passed away peacefully on Monday, May 21, 2018. She was born in Saltsburg, Pa. on October 26, 1921 to Preston and Bess Shupe. One of 3 daughters, Betty learned to be an independent, organized, and responsible young lady by helping her father run his local hardware store and being an attentive and faithful daughter to her dear Mother. In the winter of 1936, she met her future husband, Bob (Robert Elmer) Zimmerman while ice skating on the Kiski School pond. Betty graduated from Saltsburg High School and went on to earn an Associate Degree in Business from Duffs College. On April 10, 1943, Betty and Bob married and proceeded to live a life full of love, happiness, and golf until his death in December of 1990. She was a devoted and loving mother to their 3 children: Elmer Ernest “Ernie” Zimmerman, II (Wendie) of Fox Chapel, Bobette K. Z. Cooper (Kurt) of Atlanta, GA and Robert Elmer Zimmerman (the late, Evelyn) of Ashburn, VA. She leaves behind 6 grandsons: E.E. “Chip” Zimmerman, III, Brian D. Zimmerman (Jennifer), Jackson R. Cooper (Sallie Long), Alec A. Cooper, Robert I. Zimmerman (Katie) and Thomas R. Zimmerman. Her great grandchildren include; Emerson and Ella Zimmerman, Adam and Brad Zimmerman, and Brooks and Alexandria Zimmerman. Betty shared her love of gardening as a member of the Squaw Run Garden Club and her passion for golf as the Ladies Golf Chairman at Indian Creek Country Club in Miami Beach. She was also a long time member and friend to many of The Ladies Golf League at the Pittsburgh Field Club in Fox Chapel. Betty and Bob celebrated their 50th year of first meeting at Kiski Pond by going on a memorable trip to Hawaii. Throughout their lives together, they made friends wherever they traveled and resided including: Hilton Head Island, SC, Bal Harbor, FL, Ponte Vedre, FL and Viamede, Canada. After the loss of her beloved husband, Betty enjoyed using her artistic talents to remodel and decorate her several homes, travel extensively, read voraciously, and even become computer savvy.
