Betty H. Selby
Age 96, passed away on Thursday, October 14, 2021, after a major stroke in McKinney, TX. She was born on September 24, 1925 in Pulaski, NY, the daughter of Roy C. and Maize Hartman. She graduated Valedictorian from Pulaski High School and Cornell University, School of Home Economics. On July 3, 1948, Betty married Dick Selby whom she met at Cornell University. She taught high school in Pulaski, NY and Cleveland, OH before starting a family.
She loved to garden and grow beautiful flowers. After her husband retired early, she turned her gardening into a second career by studying and being certified as a Master Floral/Horticultural Judge. Betty enjoyed traveling Pennsylvania judging different floral shows and teaching floral design for many years. She was a long time resident of Fox Chapel and member of Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church. Betty enjoyed ballroom dancing with her husband, traveling the world and being involved in the Guyasuta Garden Club for years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dick Selby, and brother, Robert Hartman. She is survived by her son, Glenn Selby and his wife Renee Selby, daughter, Carolyn Selby and her husband, Steve Karney, grandson, Ryan Selby-Karney and his wife, Samantha Selby-Karney, granddaughters, Ashley Selby-Karney and Haley Selby-Karney, grandson, Troy Selby-Karney, great grandchildren Jayden Simmons, Gracie Selby-Karney and Cooper Selby-Karney.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 21, 2021 from 5-8 p.m. at the Weddell-Ajak Funeral Home, 100 Center Ave, Aspinwall, where a Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 22, 2021. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Osteosarcoma Institute.
