Shirley E. Steele
Age 95, of Aspinwall, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Tuesday, January 30, 2018. Shirley was born and rasied in Harvey, North Dakota and was the daughter of the late Frank and Una LeVan Popejoy. Shirley during World War II, worked as a machinist and specialist at the ship yard in Seattle, WA. She participated in the Senior Olympics and had won numerous medals in archery, darts and horseshoes. She was a retired waitress and enjoyed being with family, writing and traveling the world, but her favorite place was Mt. Rainer. Shirley was a tour director at the Vintage Senior Center in East Liberty and a longtime member of the Community United Methodist Church, Aspinwall. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Deborah Joy Steele and her sister, Neva Theige. She is survived by her beloved son, Frank G. (Linda) Steele, her cherished granddaughter, Emily Joy Steele, and her brother, Walford (Mercedes) Popejoy. Visitation Friday, February 2, 2018 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the WEDDELL-AJAK FUNERAL HOME, 100 Center Ave. Aspinwall, where a funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. The family respectfully suggests memorial contributions to Community United Methodist Church, 400 Center Ave. Pgh PA 15215.
