Richard J. Selby

Age 92,  passed away on Saturday, June 3, 2017, after a short illness in McKinney, TX.  He was born on December 24, 1924 in Chicago, IL., the son of Albert Paul and Susanna Selby.  He graduated from Ben Avon High School and Cornell University, School of Hotel Administration.  On July 3, 1948, Dick married Betty Hartman Selby whom he met at Cornell University.  He had a 30+ year career with US Steel as a CPA and a second career as the Tax Collector for Fox Chapel Borough.  He was a long time resident of Fox Chapel and member of Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church.  Dick enjoyed ballroom dancing with his wife, traveling the world and listening to music especially jazz.  He will be remembered for his humor and his robust laugh. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Don P. Selby.  He is survived by his wife, Betty Hartman Selby of 68 years, son, Glenn Selby and his wife Renee Selby, daughter, Carolyn Selby and her husband, Steve Karney, grandson, Ryan Selby-Karney and his wife, Samantha Selby-Karney, granddaughters, Ashley Selby-Karney and Haley Selby-Karney, grandson, Troy Selby-Karney, great grandchildren Jayden Simmons and Gracie Selby-Karney. The family will receive friends Monday, June 12, 2017 from 5-8 p.m. at the WEDDELL-AJAK FUNERAL HOME, 100 Center Ave. Aspinwall.   A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at the Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church, 384 Fox Chapel Rd. Burial will follow at Allegheny County Memorial Park, McCandless Twp. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Diabetes Association.
