F. Gene Braun, M.D.

Age 86, passed away on Sunday, October 28, 2018. Beloved husband of Ellen Hastcoat Braun; stepfather of Kevin (Amber) Hastcoat and John Hastcoat; step grandfather of Connor, Antonio and Jade Hastcoat all of Dallas,TX; cousin of Gary (Mary) Braun and Melissa (Mike) Baumiller all of Pittsburgh and cousins Jimmy (Donna) Callaway of Tallahasse, FL and many friends. Gene was a proud graduate of North Catholic High School. He went to the University of Pittsburgh and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry degree and went on to complete Medical School at University of Pittsburgh. Gene then did his internship at Shadyside Hospital. Following his internship Gene proudly served his country in the Public Health Sevice as the ships doctor and then as a doctor at an Indian Reservation in Lawton, Oklahoma. He then completed his Ophthalmology Residency at Graduate Hospital, University of Pennsylvania.  Gene then decided to head south as he discovered you could actually have "winter and sun" in the same sentence. He established his practice in Dallas, TX and delivered caring and compassionate care to all of his many patients. When Gene retired in July 1999 he didn't want to have Dallas summers or Pittsburgh winters so he divided his time  between these 2 cities enjoying friends and family in both places. Gene had a great love of history and loved his computer and spent many hours expanding his vocabulary using "The Word of the Day". Gene was loving, kind and compassionate and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.  He patterned and lived his life by the words of Timothy-"I fought the good fight, I completed the race, I kept the faith". Rest well, my Love.  Friends received Thursday, November 1, 2018 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the WEDDELL-AJAK FUNERAL HOME, 100 Center Avenue, Aspinwall.  In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial contributions to Cleveland Clinic Foundation Heart & Vascular Institute, Attn: Delaina DiVencenzo, 9500 Euclid Ave/DV-3, Cleveland, OH, 44195 or CORE (Center for Organ donations),  204 Sigma Dr, RIDC Park, Pittsburgh, PA 15238
