Catherine "Cathy" Hurst of Fox Chapel, passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of Sunday, September 16, 2018, due to complications associated with a brain lymphoma. She was known locally as a Professor of Theatre at Saint Michael's College 1994-2017, Co-Artistic Director of Saint Michael's Playhouse 1997-2003, Director of over 50 academic and professional productions including her original play "Cirque du Soufflé" (featuring equity actors and NECI chefs at Saint Michael's Playhouse in 2000), and recipient of the 2015 Kennedy Center Gold Medallion for Excellence in Teaching. Cathy was beloved by many students from Saint Michael's College and UNLV, where she taught as an Associate Professor of Acting and Directing (1987-1994).
Cathy is survived by her husband, Robert Snapp; step-children and their spouses: Julia Snapp and Edward Linto of Shelburne, VT, Catherine Snapp and Raymond Sultan of Brooklyn, NY, Ian Snapp of Portland, OR; grandchildren: Patrick Linto and Joseph Sultan; mother, Ann Loraine Hurst of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; siblings and their spouses (and partners): Christopher and Diane Hurst of Wichita, KS, Marcy and Clay Herron of Atlanta, GA, Elli Hurst and Brian McMahon of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; nieces and nephews: Christopher and Anna Hurst, Eva Herron, and Reagan and Chris Dearwester; aunts: Karen Hughes of Iowa City, IA, and Pat Finn of Pompano, FL; and cousins Amy and Emily Hughes, and Jean, Peter and Paul Hurst. She was preceded in death by Michael Hurst, her father, and Andrew Hurst, her brother.
Since Cathy was deeply dedicated to her students, the family requests donations be made in memory of Cathy to the Saint Michael's College Theatre Department, either mailed to Saint Michael's College, One Winooski Park, Box 255, Colchester, VT 05439, or entered online at smcvt.edu/giveback (select option "other" and type "Memory of Cathy Hurst").
