Adelaide "Heidi" Novak

Age 91, of Longwood at Oakmont, passed peacefully, Saturday, September 16, 2017.  Beloved wife of late Joseph Novak, M.D., loving mother of Joseph Novak Jr. (Debbie) of New Kensington, Cornelia Harlovic (Michael) of Oswego, NY, Barbara Novak of Rocky Mtns, UT/CO, Heidi Craig of Waimanalo, HI, Peter Novak (Lynette) of Longmont, CO, Luis Balcazar (Mona) of Coral Gables, FL; cherished grandmother (“Omi”) of Roman, Eric, Ellie, Kelsey, Corinne, Alex, Maria Laura and Andres; fondly known as Tante Heidi to beloved cousins in Graz, Tragoss and Vienna, Austria; and relatives Helga Georgescu (John) and Steven (Emily: Jules, James) of Pgh. Heidi was born in Graz, Austria, migrated to Melbourne, Australia in 1950, emigrated to the USA in 1957, settling in Fox Chapel, in 1961, then retiring in Somerset. She was an avid lover of Symphony and Opera, and a dedicated volunteer at St. Francis Hospital where her husband Dr. Joseph Novak was Chairman of the Dept. of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Heidi and Joe were active members of the Austrian American Cultural Society. They dedicated their time and talents to raising funds for the creation of the exquisite Austrian Room located in the Univ. of Pittsburgh’s Cathedral of Learning; primarily the scholarship fund whose contribution’s continue to support the student summer abroad language, art, culture and/or music studies. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in the name of Heidi Novak to the Austrian Room Scholarship Fund, Univ. of Pittsburgh, 4200 Fifth Ave., Rm. 1209 Cathedral of Learning, Pgh., PA 15260 Memorial Service will be private. Family will notify friends and relatives. Arrangements by WEDDELL-AJAK FUNERAL HOME, Aspinwall.
