Jean Kacerik Tuthill

Age 82, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 15, 2024. Her family was number one in her life and she expressed endless love for her husband De, son DeWayne (Victoria Deans), daughter-in-law Sarah and her wonderful granddaughters Lydia and Edie. Lydia is a sophomore at the College of Charleston and Edie is a Junior at Fox Chapel High School.

Jean was born and raised in the South Side neighborhood of Pittsburgh. A graduate of St. Michael’s High School and Mount Mercy College (now Carlow University). She went on to serve as a Hematology Technician at Mercy Hospital, Allegheny General Hospital, and The University of Pittsburgh School of Health.

Jean spent decades enjoying the tennis community at The Monroeville Racquet Club where she and her son won a USTA parent child-tournament and went on to compete at the national level in Baltimore, Maryland. She coached the Central Catholic High School boy’s tennis team for 10 years where she derived immense joy in helping to develop the character of the players.

An active member of the Women’s Golf Association of Western Pennsylvania, Jean was a pillar of the community at Edgewood Country Club where she developed many life-long friendships. The highlight of her golfing experience was playing Sun City Golf Club in South Africa the same week that Tiger Woods played the course. She was a devoted Bridge enthusiast developing many strong friendships at the various games around the Pittsburgh area and amassing over 100 Master points after starting to play later in life.

She travelled extensively with her husband of 59 years throughout Europe, Hawaii, and South Africa. She was an active member of Calvary Episcopal Church for 50 years. Her motto was to show compassion and kindness to everyone she met. Blessed with many friends, she was never heard to offer a negative thought. Jean will be sorely missed by her friends and family. She is now at peace with our Lord and Savior.

No Visitation. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Calvary Episcopal Church, 315 Shady Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15206.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial contributions in Jean's memory to Calvary Episcopal Church.
