Jean (Canel) Eckert

Of Aspinwall, on Friday, May 19, 2017.  Beloved wife of 57 years to William L. Eckert, retired Chief of Police Borough of Aspinwall.  Loving mother of Suzanne (Bill) Eckert-Burton of Maryland.  Dear and devoted grandmother of Cody, Tuck, Mari-Therese and Mindy.  Daughter of the late Homer and Berdena Canel.  Sister of the late Verenes O'Toole, and H. Joseph Canel.  Jean was a lifelong educator, beginning her teaching career in Richland and Shaler Townships before moving to St. Scholastica School in Aspinwall, where she taught elementary grades for 25 years. In her retirement, Jean continued to share her talents and love of children as a substitute teacher. A humble woman of great faith, Jean showered kindness and generosity to all she met. Her faithful spirit and wisdom will be sorrowfully missed by her family, and especially her husband Bill. She will always be remembered as the best mother and grandmother in the world and an angel on earth.  Visitation Sunday, May 21, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at WEDDELL - AJAK FUNERAL HOME, 100 Center Ave., Aspinwall.  Funeral Mass Monday, 12 noon at St. Scholastica Church, 309 Brilliant Ave., Aspinwall.  EVERYONE PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH.  Interment in St. Mary of the Assumption Cemetery, Hampton Twp.
